Small Town Girl
About us...
Welcome to Small Town Girl, a monthly series created by Georgia Rhodes interviewing industry professionals who grew up outside of a fashion capital and built their own connections and careers from the ground up to inspire others that your background does not define you or your goals.
A diverse team from all backgrounds is a better team
Who are we?
Coming from a small town in the heart of Yorkshire, Georgia's biggest worry was fuelled by accessing the industry out of London with no connections or privilege. Coming from a low income small town, London was never on the cards for Georgia financially.
Diving into the industry this fear and doubt was always in the back of her mind, she is now eager to change that for others entering industry from similar backgrounds.
Discovering an amazing life-changing education up North in fashion and creating her own opportunities and connections from scratch to get her foot in the door, she and many others are proof it is possible.
Building your own career and connections from the ground up rather than it being handed to you only further shows your passion, drive and resilience. It is NOT a bad thing.
All based in her little town of Barnsley, Georgia has landed her dream internships, freelance work, education, career opportunities & more. Now she uses Small Town Girl to offer that hope and inspiration she wish she had as an anxious 16 year old...
What we share?
This interview series aims to inspire and offer hope to those who come from small towns from across the globe. The fashion industry is a global industry and the inclusive dream of those from all backgrounds is not just an issue for young girls here in the UK but globally.
Each month we speak with an industry professional who made it on there own from their own 'small town' into the fashion industry to not only prove it is more than possible, but share tips, advice and the reality of the industry and what needs to change.
This blog was created with intention to not only help others but drive change in the industry by creating awareness.
Where you come from is not a limit and does not define you, your skillset, your passion or goals.
So far we have spoken to some of the most incredible women in industry from companies such as CR Fashion Book to Louis Vuitton at different career stages from intern to senior roles.
We speak to a diverse range of women from all walks of life.
